Faraday Wear (5G)

2018 - 2020

Faraday Wear
developed out of a collection of essays titled Active Denial Systems, which explores instances in which the materiality the body is denied for the sake of capitalism. The Active Denial System is the name of a “non-lethal” crowd control weapon developed and deployed by the US military, which uses electromagnetic waves to create a burning sensation in the skin, causing its targets to flee. ADS is only non-lethal if you flee it’s beam.

At the advent of 5G internet technologies, scientists around the world raised concern about the effects that 5G is documented to have on human and non-human bodies, many pointing to the ADS weapons, as the two are close in frequency.

Faraday Wear is a series of garments and inhabitable structures that shelter users from electromagnetic frequencies and microwave radiation produced by wireless internet technologies. The series is not intended as a solution, but as a visible index of invisible danger.
