For the Foreseeable Future (part 1)

11:15 / 2020

In March of 2020, “for the foreseeable future” erupted as a colloquial phrase. Taken literally, “the foreseeable future” means “as far into the future as one can imagine or predict.” While intended to designate a temporary condition, the phrase instead reveals how quickly our faith in the continuation of current structures, priorities, and livelihoods can evaporate.

But the future was, and is, always uncertain. And so we are left to ask, for whom was the future foreseeable, and at what cost? For the Foreseeable Future (part 1) explores ways of perceiving time and conceiving futurity on precarious foundations.
