Ke (You Have Many Teachers)

13:23

“Ke” is a pronoun for accommodating animacy in non-human, non-animal others, proposed by botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer (Citizen Potawatomi Nation). Ke (you have many teachers) is a video travelogue down the Mississippi river, from Carbondale to Bulbancha (New Orleans), as told through a series of encounters with non-human teachers, among them: a digital lens flare, a smoke stack, a drone, a marsh, and a 500 year old tree. Ke explores the ways in which non-human beings, both organic and mechanical, hold memories of exploitation, profess present experiences of control and adaptation, and dream of remediation and resurgence.
